A Message from the Board of Directors

Summer has been a season of advocacy, local engagement, and pride in the communities and traditions that make Atlantic Canada strong. Across Kings-Hants, Conservatives have come together to support local events, welcome voices from across the movement, and build the relationships that will help shape a stronger future for our riding and our country.

This edition highlights the work Conservatives have been doing nationally and locally: from standing up for small towns, our plan for economic growth, and affordability to celebrating Acadian culture and the entrepreneurial spirit that defines our region. It also recognizes the volunteers, members, and supporters whose commitment remains the backbone of the Conservative movement in Kings-Hants.

Thank you for your continued support as we build momentum, strengthen our organization, and look ahead to more opportunities to connect in the months ahead.

Best wishes,

Kings-Hants Conservative Association

Conservative Leadership in Action

A Big Plan for Small Towns

Conservatives used the summer to put a sharper focus on rural and remote Canada, with Shadow Minister Richard Bragdon outlining an eight-point Big Plan for Small Towns aimed at giving smaller communities a stronger voice and practical policy support.

It calls for stronger support for farmers, streamlined forestry rules, more transparent fisheries licensing and increased funding for small-craft harbours. It also proposes removing federal fuel taxes through at least Canada Day 2027, deferring capital-gains taxes when money is reinvested in Canada, and treating reliable broadband as essential infrastructure. The plan further calls for protecting hunters and sport shooters while improving border security against illegal firearms, and for stronger measures to protect places of worship from attacks. Together, these proposals are intended to support the industries, families, and local institutions that form the backbone of small-town Canada.

For small town communities across Kings-Hants and rural Nova Scotia, the message is straightforward: national policy must better reflect the realities of small towns, resource industries, and working families.

A Stronger Economic Plan

This summer, we were encouraged to see Pierre Poilievre lay out a detailed Canada First Economic Action Plan focused on affordability, homebuilding, jobs, and national economic growth. The plan sets out a clear goal of boosting Canada’s economic activity by a total of half a trillion dollars over five years through lower taxes, faster project approvals, stronger investment incentives, and a more competitive business environment.

For families, workers, and young people trying to get ahead, the plan includes several concrete measures. Conservatives are proposing a 15 percent income tax cut through the Bring It Home Tax Cut, removing the federal sales tax on new homes up to $1.3 million, cutting the sales tax on new Canadian-made cars, training 350,000 new apprentices over five years, and restoring $4,000 apprenticeship grants. The plan also includes a Keep Canadians Working Fund to support businesses and workers affected by tariffs and economic disruption.

To strengthen long-term growth, Conservatives are calling for the repeal of Bills C-69 and C-48, the removal of the cap on Canadian energy production, the scrapping of the industrial carbon tax, and the creation of a National Energy Corridor to move Canadian resources across the country and to global markets. The plan also proposes a Canada First Reinvestment Tax Cut, a one-stop project approval system with one application and one review within one year, rapid approval of major energy projects, shovel-ready development zones, and a 25 percent cut to red tape through a new two-for-one rule.

This Conservative plan speak directly to the pressures facing our communities. Lower taxes, more homes, stronger trades training, faster infrastructure approvals, and a serious commitment to Canadian energy and business growth are the kinds of policies that can help restore opportunity, affordability, and confidence for families here in Kings-Hants and across the country.

Celebrating Acadian Heritage

On National Acadian Day, Pierre Poilievre issued a statement recognizing Acadian culture, history, food, music, and resilience as part of the fabric of Atlantic Canada and one of the foundational pillars of the Canadian family. He also acknowledged the role Acadians have played in shaping Canadian bilingualism and the enduring strength of Acadian identity across generations.

That recognition matters deeply in Atlantic Canada, where Acadian history is not only a story of the past but a living part of community life today. The statement reflected a public acknowledgement from the Conservative leader of the culture and traditions that continue to shape the region.

Calling for Accountability and Relief

Canadians are already feeling the consequences of tariffs through lost jobs, uncertain paycheques, and higher costs at the checkout. Our Conservative Association regularly hears from families across Kings-Hants who are frustrated at being asked to bear the cost of counter-tariffs without a clear explanation of what those measures will mean for their household budgets.

The Conservative Party believes Canada must stand up for its workers, industries, and sovereignty and that the response must put maximum pressure on the United States while placing the minimum possible burden on Canadians. Counter-tariffs on essentials such as food, hygiene products, appliances, and electronics can raise everyday costs for families, particularly when those products cannot easily be made in Canada or sourced elsewhere.

That is why Conservatives are calling on the government to release its analysis of what counter-tariffs will cost Canadian households, including the impact on a family of four. Conservatives are also calling for the government to publish the agreement it rejected, so Canadians can see the facts and judge the decision for themselves. We need to reconvene Parliament to introduce, debate, and pass an Economic Action Plan that cuts taxes, creates jobs, unlocks growth, and restores affordability.

Canadians deserve a government that is transparent about the cost of its decisions and serious about protecting their livelihoods. We believe Canada can respond firmly to unfair U.S. tariffs while building a stronger, more self-reliant economy that works for workers, families, and communities in Kings-Hants and across the country.

A Strong Summer for Conservatives in Kings-Hants

This summer, the Kings-Hants Conservative Association was proud to welcome supporters from across the riding for a successful fundraising event featuring Josh Udall, host of The Elevate Report, and Rob Batherson, former Conservative Party President and Candidate of Record for Halifax West.

We were thrilled by the strong turnout, the energy in the room, and the generous support shown for our association. Events like this are an important reminder that the Conservative movement is alive and well in Kings-Hants. There is a growing desire for common sense leadership, stronger communities, and a better future for Canada.

Our membership is the backbone of the Conservative movement in this riding. From volunteers and donors to event attendees and local advocates, every member helps build the organization, relationships, and momentum needed to make a difference in Kings-Hants.

The association extends its sincere thanks to Josh Udall and Rob Batherson for joining us, and to every supporter who helped make the evening such a success. We look forward to hosting more opportunities in the months ahead for Conservatives across Kings-Hants to connect, engage, and help strengthen our local movement.

MP Dave Epp Visits Kings-Hants

The Kings-Hants Conservative Association was elated to see Dave Epp, Member of Parliament for Chatham-Kent—Leamington, visit the riding as part of his summer tour through the region. MP Epp spent time connecting with constituents and learning more about the businesses, industries, and communities that make Kings-Hants such a remarkable place.

During his visit, MP Epp stopped at Lightfoot & Wolfville Vineyards, highlighting one of the innovative local businesses helping drive tourism, agriculture, and economic activity in the Annapolis Valley. His visit offered an important opportunity to showcase the entrepreneurship, hard work, and community spirit that define our region.

MP Dave Epp also visited Manning Family Farms, providing an opportunity to hear directly from those working in one of Kings-Hants’ most important industries. Agriculture is at the heart of our riding, supporting local families, sustaining rural communities and producing the high-quality food Canadians rely on. Conservatives will ensure that farmers have the conditions they need to succeed, including lower costs, less unnecessary red tape and policies that recognize agriculture as a cornerstone of both the Kings-Hants economy and Canada’s food security.

The Kings-Hants Conservative Association is grateful to MP Epp for taking the time to visit our riding and engage directly with community members. Visits like these strengthen the connection between Kings-Hants and the wider Conservative movement, while ensuring that the priorities of rural Nova Scotians continue to be heard.

Looking Ahead: Fighting for Jobs and Growth

As Parliament returns this month, Conservatives will continue fighting for the priorities that matter to families, workers, and businesses in Kings-Hants: affordable living, secure jobs, and an economy where hard work is rewarded. With employment falling and young Canadians facing particular difficulty finding work, Conservatives are calling for urgent action to protect Canadian workers and restore confidence in our economic future.

Conservatives are urging Parliament to advance an emergency Economic Action Plan that would eliminate capital-gains taxes on money reinvested in Canada, greenlight the 500 major projects awaiting federal approval, repeal anti-development measures such as Bills C-48 and C-69 and the industrial carbon tax, and support increased automotive production. These measures are intended to attract investment, get projects moving, strengthen Canadian industries, and create opportunities for the next generation.

As the Kings-Hants Conservative Association Board of Directors, we believe Canadians deserve a government focused on results, not delay. We will continue supporting a Conservative agenda that helps workers keep their jobs, enables businesses to grow, develops Canada’s resources responsibly, and gives young Canadians a real chance to build a future here at home.
